In recent years, an increasing trend of rural-urban migration in Poland can be observed. This means in practice, that the Polish countryside is depopulating, and fewer and fewer people want to undertake hard, physical work, often exposed to accidents. Migrants, mainly from Ukraine, increasingly fill this gap.
The report prepared by our partners, the Buy Responsible Foundation (BRF), gives an overview of the working conditions of migrant workers in the agriculture sector in Poland before February 2022, checking eventual human rights violations at the beginning of the supply chain in Poland. Among others, in the study exploitation, abuses, legal issues related to Ukrainian labour in the agriculture sector in Poland are explored. It becomes evident, that further monitoring of migrant employment and working conditions in the agricultural sector in Poland must turn into a priority for political decisionmakers.
