The idea consists of monthly dinners for 20 people, in which the ingredients of the meals are from local farmers baskets. In addition to this, the menu of these dinners would have a QR Code directing them to a video of the farmers telling the story about the food they cultivate. Besides this, these dinners could have discussions around food sustainability or musical moments who touch on these subjects. What is important here it's that people hear the story of the food they're eating and the people who make that possible
To make this project happen, I would need: a) A space who could host these dinners (Ideally a restaurant who cares about sustainability and these kind of topics); b) A team of 2 cooks ; c) An online social media account to publicize the dinners and manage the reservations, d) Funding for the farmers baskets
More and more people live in urban areas and cities, but with that comes the alienation between farmers and the consumers who consume their food. We usually don't know the route food takes from the soil to our table, or the work people must go trough to make that happen. In addition to that, smaller farmers don't have as many possibilities of selling their products as bigger farmers. My idea plans to battle this by bringing consumers and producers closer, while giving a platform to local producers to deliver their foods.
Food is essential in our lives, we need it to survive. But more than that, food is an opportunity to bring people closer, to share stories and create a sense of community (also, food can be pretty delicious). Most people love to eat, so what better way to solve a problem than at the dinner table? With my idea, people could in a very simple way, learn about the farmers who make their food (and help them too) while eating a delicious sustainable meal. Whether we realize it or not, food tells a story and the story it tells can be of the world we want to live in or of the world we're trying to escape. My idea tends to tell a story of the world we want to live in.
